Cllr. P. Lutman

As a war baby, although conceived and brought up on Tyneside from the age of 6 months, Peter was born in Portsmouth and was educated at Public School in Newcastle upon Tyne. Since early childhood he had an enthusiastic interest in Road Passenger Transport which led to him joining a major bus group at the age of 17. In 1962 he moved to the East Midlands when selected as a Senior Management trainee and subsequently worked in the North-East, East Anglia, Oxfordshire and Scotland, returning to the East Midlands in 1981 as Managing Director of Midland Red East (renamed Midland Fox in 1983).

Peter has lived in Houghton since 1981 but the pressures of developing the bus company for 7 years took most of his time. Older parishioners might remember the Fox Cub mini-buses he introduced which provided a successful half-hourly service linking Houghton with Leicester. He took up Transport Consultancy almost exclusively outside the U.K., working in 34 countries over 26 years from China in the east to Barbados in the west. As a keen traveller he has visited a further 29 countries. Peter is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and served as a regional Committee Member for several years.

Now semi-retired he is able to participate to a greater extent in Village affairs and appreciated the action of the Parish Council in co-opting him to serve as a Parish Councillor in October 2014.
