Queen's Platinum Jubilee

The Parish Council is planning or supporting various events to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Thursday 2nd – Sunday 5th June
Programme of Events

Thursday Evening
From 7.30 pm HFA will be holding a Family Night Event on the playing field at Weir Lane.
At 9.45 pm the Beacon will be lit on the playing field followed by a short firework display.

Friday Afternoon
Tea Dance with refreshments at the Village Hall. Please see April Houghton News for details or contact Franklin and Mary Woodcock (0116 241 8183) for tickets.

Friday Evening
5.30 – 7pm. Family Disco for children up to 11 years accompanied by parents at the Village Hall organised by Houghton Scout Group. Free entry and refreshments. Please see publicity from the Scout Group for ticket information.

Saturday Evening
Houghton Community Cinema with refreshments at the Village Hall. Movie to be shown is A Royal Night Out (12A). The doors will open at 7pm and the movie starts at 7.15 pm. Tickets and refreshments are free. Please see Community Cinema posters and details in Houghton News.

Sunday
The National Big Sunday Lunch at the Village Hall

• The Village Hall and green will be open from 12 noon.

• Please bring a picnic with food and drinks and celebrate with friends and neighbours.

• Tables and chairs will be set out ready for you and the green will be decorated with bunting.

• 1pm children's fancy dress parade and judging for best costume with engraved trophy and engraved medals for the winners. Small prize for every entrant.

• 1.30pm best Jubilee crown parade and judging will take place. Entries invited from both adults and chil-dren. Get creative and design and make your Jubilee headwear. Engraved trophy and prize for the win-ner. Small prize for every child entrant.

• Half yard of ale competition for adults.

• Music with DJ.

• Bowls Club competition.

• Table tennis available.

• St Catharine's Church Bell Ringers will be ringing over the weekend.

Best Dressed House. Why not join in by decorating your house or front garden in a Jubilee theme, or perhaps with Jubilee Scarecrows? If you would like to take part please forward your name and address to Steve Derry clerk@houghtononthehillpc.org.uk. A list of decorated homes will be available for residents to take away, tour the village and judge the best dressed home with engraved trophy and prize for the winner.
