Burial grounds and closed churchyards |
Anyone wishing to arrange a burial in the churchyard in Houghton should get in touch with the Team Vicar of St. Catharine's Church. In practice, it is often the funeral director who does this on behalf of the family. In order to be buried in the churchyard, a person must have lived in the parish at the time of their death, unless they are being buried in an existing family grave. There is no civic cemetery at Houghton on the Hill. The nearest crematorium is Leicester Crematorium which is in Gilroes Cemetery, Groby Road, Leicester LE3 9QG. |

Indoor community activities are served by the Village Hall, the Sports Pavilion on the Weir Lane Playing Field, and a Meeting Room attached to the Methodist Chapel (known as Houghton Methodist Church Schoolroom). The local village primary school is used for community activities in the evening. |
